At Perks, we take the security of our systems very seriously and handle client data with the utmost care. Now more than ever, it’s important for businesses to stay vigilant about cyber safety. Here are some key measures you can take to protect your personal and business data.
Protecting your data from cyber threats

In light of the recent Optus and Medibank data breach, we would like to reassure you that protecting your financial and personal information is imperative to us. Our systems have not been compromised and we are continuously utilising our expert team of IT professionals to keep you and your data safe.

With hybrid working arrangements becoming more prevalent in recent years, businesses are at greater risk of cyber-attacks, such as phishing scams and social engineering. Savvy cyber criminals are aware of these vulnerabilities and are constantly developing new hacking tactics to manipulate businesses.

Now more than ever, it’s important for businesses to stay vigilant about cyber safety.

Key measures to protect your data:

  • Activate two layers of security
    • Use two-factor authentication for an extra layer of security to keep your personal information safe.

  • Stop and check before sharing your personal information
    • Ask yourself, do I really need to give my information to this site or person?

  • Be wary of unexpected emails, calls or messages that ask you to take action
    • Be aware of current scams. If an email, call or SMS seems unusual, check it through official contact points or report it as spam.

  • Turn on automatic software updates
    • Set your software, operating system and apps to auto update to ensure you get the latest security features enabled.

  • Train team members on cyber-security basics
    • Perform annual training on the latest scams, how to identify them and how to protect yourself from them.

While no set list of strategies is guaranteed to protect against all cyber threats, here at Perks we implement eight essential strategies as recommended by the Australian Cyber Security Centre to mitigate cyber security incidents. This baseline, known as the ‘Essential Eight’ includes the above pointers among others and greatly minimises the opportunities for cyber criminals to compromise our systems.

Perks proudly supports Cyber Security Awareness Month, an annual reminder for everyone to stay vigilant and secure online. Learn more at the Australian Cyber Security Centre.
