Overview:

South Australia’s aquaculture and marine industries have faced significant challenges due to recent algal bloom events. To help businesses and organisations navigate this period and build resilience for the future, the State Government has announced a comprehensive Algal Bloom Support Package.

What’s on Offer?

The package provides targeted financial assistance to support recovery and sustainability across affected sectors:

  • For Commercial Fisheries and Aquaculture Licence Holders: Eligible businesses can access up to $275,000 in funding to:
    • Maintain cashflow stability during operational disruptions.
    • Support existing workers, ensuring continuity of employment.
    • Invest in projects that strengthen business resilience for the long term.
  • For Small Businesses and Not-for-Profit Organisations: Organisations experiencing a material reduction in turnover due to the algal bloom can apply for up to $50,000. This funding aims to help bridge the downturn and sustain operations through mid-2026.

Next Steps

If your business has been affected:

  • Review eligibility criteria for the relevant funding stream.
  • Prepare documentation to demonstrate the impact on turnover or operations.
