Changes to the Government Grants for First Home Owners
The following taxation measures were announced by the Government as part of the State Budget handed down on 16 September 2010.
The First Home Owner Grant of $7,000 will now only apply for properties with a market value up to $575,000. The cap will apply to applicants who enter into a contract to purchase or build a home on or after 17 September 2010, or who commence construction as owner builders on or after 17 September 2010.
The State Government First Home Bonus Grant which was previously an additional $4,000 is no longer available for the purchase of existing properties.
Home buyers who build or purchase a newly constructed home will now receive $8,000 (instead of the previous $4,000) from the State Government in addition to the $7,000 First Home Owners Grant.
It’s still a great opportunity for new home owners to take advantage of the first home buyers’ grants.
