Australia

  • Building approvals for private sector houses rose 3.1% in December 2009 following a fall last month.
  • The unemployment rate decreased 0.2% to 5.3% in January 2010.
  • CPI rose 2.1% through the year to December quarter 2009, compared to an annual rise of 1.3% to September quarter 2009.

United States

  • CPI increased 0.1% in December 2009.
  • The unemployment rate for January 2010 decreased to 9.7%.

England

  • The volume of retail sales in the three months to December 2009 was 2.7% higher than the same period a year ago.
  • The Halifax House Price Index increased by 0.6% in January 2010.

New Zealand  

  • CPI fell 0.2% in the December 2009 quarter compared with the September 2009 quarter.
